Head of Volunteering
Permanent, full time - £55,000 per annum + benefits
Are you an experienced leader in volunteering, looking to make a big difference with one of the biggest charity brands in the UK? Samaritans are looking for a dynamic Head of Volunteering to lead our work in supporting the 20,000 current Samaritans volunteers and attracting the thousands of new ones we need to continue our work.
We’re looking for an experienced leader, manager, and innovator in volunteering ready to take the lead as we evolve our offer and our services to be fit for the future. You’ll understand the importance of continuing high-quality support for existing volunteers and the opportunity we have to reach, inspire and engage new volunteer audiences.
Samaritans’ service is provided by more than 20,000 ‘ordinary’ people who do something extraordinary by volunteering across our 201 branches in the UK and Ireland. Our goal is to be there for everyone, whenever they are struggling to cope - and with a call for help every six seconds, we know we’re needed more than ever.
This is an exciting time to join an organisation committed to transformation and with a track record of investing in volunteering. As a senior leader within the People and Organisational Development Directorate this crucial role that will take a lead role in developing and delivering an effective strategy to:
- Develop and deliver a strategic plan for volunteering, growing organisational capacity and capability in volunteering and enabling the delivery of the Samaritans strategy
- Lead and manage innovation in volunteering
- Lead, manage and develop the volunteering team
- Ensure the provision of an efficient and effective volunteering support service
- Represent Samaritans volunteering externally
You’ll be based at our friendly head office on a beautiful millpond in Ewell, Surrey. This is just a 30-minute train journey from Waterloo and 15 minutes from Wimbledon.
