1. What to do when someone is in immediate danger
4. Elana's experience
Talking to someone you can trust
Elana supported her mum through hard times — when she felt scared she reached out to a friend with similar experiences.
Elana, supported her mum
'If my mum was in a position where she felt like a burden, where she felt vulnerable, the last thing she would have wanted to hear was that it was hard to help her.
'But if you have someone who you trust, someone who just wants to listen, who's more there for you then they are for the person you're supporting — to them you can say, "This is really difficult for me and I'm really scared."
'I had a really good friend who also supported her family very closely. Just hearing from someone who's been through it say, "There is another side and it's okay."'
