How we can help
We work with HMP Berwyn (Wrexham) prison to reduce suicide and self-harm in the prison.
If you'd like to talk to someone face-to-face in a quiet, private space, we're open weekdays 10am-6pm, weekends 10am-1pm. Unfortunately this service has been suspended because of the coronavirus oandemic.
Whatever you're going through, a Samaritan will face it with you. Nationally we're here 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
We regularly visit local primary schools to talk about the vital importance of keeping emotionally healthy.

Chester and District Samaritans have been willingly giving their time to help people in Chester, Ellesmere Port, Neston, Wrexham and Deeside for more than 50 years, every day of the year.

In 2019 we answered
- 19,129 phone calls
- 7454 emails and texts
We met people in our branch 28 times and reached out to approximately 9320 people outside of the branch.
And we're really proud to be part of the hugely respected national charity Samaritans, who drive our campaigns; the latest (June 2020 and ongoing) being ' Real People, Real Stories'.
COVID-19
Owing to the coronavirus pandemic, Chester Samaritans have regretfully stopped all Face to Face callers and other visitors to the branch, as well as all outreach work by branch volunteers within local communities. We will update these website details when this situation changes.
Callers can still phone the Samaritans for free on 116 123 or send an email to [email protected]
Meanwhile, do consider using easyfundraising every time you shop online to generate funds to help run our branch - at no cost at all to you! If you prefer, please use the 'Donate to this branch' link below.
Could you be a listening volunteer to support people when they most need it? Or help us as a fundraising Friend to raise the £85 a day it costs to keep our branch running (some of this comes from kind donations), contribute to the costs of our freecall number and publicise our community activities? Please go to the 'Volunteer at this branch' link below.
The below information is retained for when we're able to return to providing our normal non pandemic service :
Our Outreach Director ([email protected]) would love to hear from you if you would like to -
- organise an individual or group fundraising event for us
- arrange a talk about what we do
- offer us a table or pitch to promote our service at your event
