Ipswich is looking for a volunteer to support the smooth running of the Samaritans shop by serving customers, sorting donations or other activities as required by the shop manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To serve customers, using the till, ensuring the correct price is charged, accurate change given and department code used.
  • To display stock attractively, ensuring that only stock of the correct quality is taken onto the shop floor.
  • To thank any member of the public who donates goods, and never to refuse donations.
  • To provide excellent customer service, ensuring that when you are on the shop floor, you speak and interact with customers and members of the public.
  • To have good housekeeping skills, helping us to keep the shop clean and tidy, and to assist with daily tasks such as hoovering.
  • To follow instructions given by the Shop Manager or Supervisor.
  • To ensure that appropriate behaviour and language is used at all times, and that there is no shouting or other “inappropriate” behaviour.
  • To sort stock and donations safely, making sure only one bag or box is sorted at a time.
  • To ensure the kitchen, toilet and all working areas are kept clean and tidy at all times.
  • To understand the service Samaritans provide and provide information on the service, such as the main phone line number, as required.

This list is not exhaustive, and the Shop Manager may ask you to complete other tasks.

QUALITIES AND EXPERIENCE

As a charity shop volunteer (shopmate), you do not need to be trained as a Samaritan, although we will give you some information about the organisation and the Branch which we raise funds for.

APPOINTMENT

You need to be able to commit a confirmed number of hours per week.

The ability to work flexible hours would be greatly appreciated, to help us over times such as holidays and absences.

RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION PROCESS
