Hello, I am Julie, Director of Samaritans at Weymouth. We have been supporting people in distress, working from a building opposite the Railway Station in Weymouth, for over 40 years.
As well as talking to people Face to Face, on the Telephone, by Email and Text, we are also involved with the HM Prison YOI Portland and HM Prison The Verne, where we train and support prisoners as Samaritan Listeners.
VARIOUS OPPORTUNITIES FOR NEW VOLUNTEERS -
- Our Branch was very busy in 2018 answering over 25,000 contacts by telephone, email and text. We also give talks and support the local prisons at Portland. We are always happy to respond to any requests for support or information about the service we offer.
- We are always ready to welcome new Listening Volunteers and provide excellent training, mentoring and the opportunity to develop your volunteering role with Samaritans We also welcome Support Volunteers for a variety of roles including fundraising.
In order for potential volunteers to understand a little more about our organisation, what we do, how we train volunteers and our expectations once they are trained, we hold regular information sessions at our Centre, 13 King Street, which is opposite Weymouth railway station.
Why not come along to one of these sessions which last for about an hour and take the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
We have Wednesday evening sessions scheduled for 6th March, 17th April. 29th May, 10th July and 21st August starting at 6.30pm.
If Saturday mornings would suit you better we will be holding sessions on 30th March, 11th May, 22nd June and 3rd August starting at 10am
If you email Josie at [email protected] she will be able to book you in for one of these sessions or you can leave a message on the office phone and someone will get back to you. The number to call is 01305 770598
A warm welcome awaits you.
