We were delighted to be contacted by a collective of barbers from around the area that call themselves 'Unofficial Councillors' regarding a football match at the home of Walsall FC.
On Saturday 18th May 2026, the barber's team “Unofficial Councillors Utd.” took on “Men’s United.” in this charity match to raise money for two charities - Samaritans and Mind. The Unofficial Councillors are very aware that their profession provides the space and time to talk to men about all sorts of issues from footy to relationships, work and family issues.
The Unofficial Councillors are keen to raise awareness that men can talk to barbers, feel comfortable to do so, and trust them with even the most difficult of subjects. They are used to signposting men to both Samaritans and Mind, and feel so strongly about how much both charities have helped their clients that they wanted to do something for them. After a lot of planning and preparation, the two teams and their supporters enjoyed the match. The game was a great success with the final score being 3 - 2 to the Unofficial Councillors.
However, there was more than one winner on the day .... the real winners are the men that have benefited from the support of their barbers, and the charities that benefited from this successful event.
