Recruitment
We are currently processing a number of recent listening volunteer applications and our next trainee intake after these will be in 2027.
We invite anyone who is interested to attend an Information Event to find out more about who we are and what we do.
Please note our Information Events are full for the remainder of 2026 but please keep an eye on this page where we will post details of our next once this is scheduled.
What happens next?
Once you have attended an Information Event we may ask you back for an interview and with this process complete we then move onto training.
Training for Listening Volunteers takes place over seven weekday evenings spread over seven weeks. It also requires additional online modules to be completed that typically take one to two hours per week. You can complete these additional online modules at times convenient to you. The training equips all Listening Volunteers to support our callers whether over the phone, email, web chat, or in person at our branch.
The Samaritans training programme is the same throughout the UK and ROI. This not only allows Volunteers to move between branches but, most importantly, ensures that all callers receive the same level of support.
