About Stockport Samaritans

We serve as a listening ear for our local community, with ordinary people supporting those struggling to cope, round the clock, every single day of the year.

From our base in Heaton Moor, we offer emotional support by person, by telephone, by email and by text. However, we proudly support the whole of Stockport, as well as neighbouring areas.

In 2018, our Stockport branch took over 24,000 calls for help.

There are about 25-30 suicides per year in Stockport.

Volunteering at Stockport Samaritans

Everyone in our branch is a volunteer, and we are always looking for support locally. We have over 100 volunteers from a variety of backgrounds.

Being a volunteer can help change lives, and we are always looking for people to help provide this vital listening service.

Not everyone wants to be a listening volunteer however, and there are so many other ways to support Stockport Samaritans, such as administration, fundraising, or publicity. There's something for everyone.

Our outreach work in Stockport

Stockport Samaritans are actively involved with the Stockport Suicide Prevention Collaborative to help prevent suicide in our community.

We provide Samaritan awareness training to local schools, and support the Network Rail partnership, as well as speaking at various voluntary and community groups. If you would like us to give a talk, we would always be interested - please get in touch

Raising funds for Stockport Samaritans

It costs around £21,000 per year to keep our branch operating, and letting us carry out our vital work. We strongly welcome any donations however small or large, one off or regular.

Could you also raise money for us? If you have the energy or enthusiasm to organise a fundraising event on behalf of our branch, we would love to hear from you. It can be a great thing to do with friends or family.

Visiting Stockport Samaritans

Our entrance is actually by the car park for the centre (i.e. near the back of the library, on Heaton Close). If you visit us during our opening hours, we will see you as soon as we can, but you may have to wait a short while if we are on the phone. 24/7 support is of course available on the phone or on email.

Don't forget to keep up to date with what we're doing on Twitter, and you also can watch this video about us.
