About Samaritans of Stockport and District

We serve as a listening ear for our local community, with ordinary people supporting those struggling to cope, round the clock, every single day of the year.

From our base in Heaton Moor, we offer emotional support by person, by telephone and by email. However, we proudly support the whole of Stockport, as well as neighbouring areas.

In 2019, our Stockport and District branch took 22,744 calls for help.

There are about 25-30 suicides per year in Stockport.

Volunteering at Samaritans of Stockport and District

Everyone in our branch is a volunteer, and we are always looking for support locally. We have over 100 volunteers from a variety of backgrounds.

Being a volunteer can help change lives, and we are always looking for people to help provide this vital listening service.

Not everyone wants to be a listening volunteer however, and there are so many other ways to support Samaritans of Stockport and District, such as administration, fundraising, or publicity. There's something for everyone.

October 2019 Update:

If, after applying to be a volunteer on the link at the bottom of this page, no interviews are available, please email [email protected], and we'll get back to you when one does become available. We're always really grateful for your interest.

Our outreach work in Stockport and District

Samaritans of Stockport and District are actively involved with the Stockport Suicide Prevention Collaborative to help prevent suicide in our community.

We provide Samaritan awareness training to local schools, and support the Network Rail partnership, as well as speaking at various voluntary and community groups. If you would like us to give a talk, we would always be interested - please get in touch
