Our volunteers are people from all walks of life with different experiences. There is a huge age range of volunteers all with different jobs or retired. Our similiarities are that we are a caring bunch, who are always willing to listen to what you have to say.
1965 - Reverend Michael Scott had arranged a meeting to discuss opening a Samaritan's Branch in Bridgwater
30th April 1968 - Bridgwater branch opened and the first call was made. It consisted of 39 volunteers. Reverend Brian Whiting and his wife took phone calls in the vicarage during the night, with help from Jack Dipple.
7th January 1972 - Interviews for volunteers started and the first lot of training given.
27th April 1972 - 15 New extra volunteers had completed the training.
January 1972 - Idea of having a Directorate was introduced.
21st September 1973 - Taunton Samaritans branch opened.
1982 - Bridgwater branch closed down. The volunteers were spread out across: Taunton, Yeovil and Weston branches.
