Dr Andrew Mayers
Samaritans of Bournemouth and District are extremely fortunate to have Dr Andrew Mayers, Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Bournemouth University, as our Patron.
Dr Mayers is a psychologist specialising in child and family mental health (particularly perinatal mental illness) and sleep (especially children). He actively campaigns for raising better awareness for mental health, and challenges stigma and discrimination. He is also keen to help tackle child abuse and the impact that this has on future risk for mental health problems.
He serves on several local and national advisory groups for maternal mental illness. As well as being Patron for Samaritans of Bournemouth and District, he is Chair of Trustees for ActsFast, a child abuse charity based in Dorset. He works closely with Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation NHS Trust and Dorset Police mental health street triage. More information regarding the Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner can be found here.
