On Friday 15 May 2026, volunteers from Samaritans’ Redbridge branch attended the Redbridge Foodbank Community Connect and Support Fair.
The event brought together local organisations to provide advice, connection, and vital community support.
Engaging with around 20 individuals across a footfall of 60, our volunteers raised awareness of Samaritans’ 24/7 listening service, connecting with both new and existing users of the service. Many attendees and partner organisations recognised the importance of round-the-clock emotional support, particularly outside standard working hours.
We received strong appreciation for the support we offer, alongside thoughtful conversations about the realities of listening volunteering and the importance of volunteer wellbeing. The event also generated interest in volunteering, with two Redbridge Foodbank staff members expressing interest in joining Samaritans.
While no emotional support was required on the day, the event marked an important step in strengthening our relationship with Redbridge Foodbank. Discussions are now underway to explore a more regular Samaritans presence on-site, helping make emotional support even more accessible locally.
This was a positive and encouraging outreach opportunity - strengthening partnerships, raising awareness, and reinforcing the ongoing need for accessible, compassionate listening in our community.
