Leicester Samaritans can help in a number of ways:
- Our COVID-19 response to Schools
DEAL (Developing Emotional Awareness and Listening) includes lesson plans, activities, hand-outs, DEAL digital resources, teachers’ notes and staff training materials which can all be accessed and downloaded at any time from Samaritans website.
Samaritans’ Step by Step service is here to support organisations working with young people so that they can respond effectively following the suspected or attempted suicide of someone from within their community; taking practical steps to reduce the risk of further deaths in the area.
Leicester Samaritans offer workplace training which can be tailored to fit particular needs. Training can be half day or full day and costs £12 per person (groups of 8-20 people). Please contact [email protected] for more information.
Leicester Samaritans have been working in partnership with Network Rail since 2010 to help prevent rail suicides. This work includes delivery of a suicide prevention course to frontline rail staff. This course has been adapted for the rail industry and provides the skills and confidence to approach someone in need, encourage them to talk, and lead them to a place of safety. The course also teaches some of the listening skills that underpin Samaritans services, which are as relevant in home life as they are at work.
The impact of suicide can affect everyone in the community. Every life lost to suicide matters and represents someone's child, partner, parent, friend or co-worker. Across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland everyone can make a contribution to prevent suicide.
Leicester Samaritans is involved in 'Start a Conversation', a suicide prevention campaign that aims to build a community that is committed to the mental health and wellbeing of its residents. Through a raised awareness and open and honest conversations about suicide we believe that every person has the potential to make a difference and save a life.
