All our services are provided by unpaid volunteers but we still need to raise about £50,000 every year for our running costs
We generate all this money ourselves, mainly through our charity shop, fundraising activities organised by ourselves or supporters, and donations from local people and organisations. Bequests and donations in memory of a relative or friend, perhaps someone who had supported us or had called us at a difficult time in their lives, also help us maintain our services.
We are really grateful to two of our supporters - Emma and Charlotte - who raised a total of £896 for us by taking part in the Samarathon in July 2021. And we send huge congratulations to Emma who successfully completed the 100k Race to the Stones Ultra Marathon as part of her fundraising challenge.
Local people have run all sorts of fundraising events in the past, but in what we think is a first, Hearsall Litterbusters organised a mammoth 24-hour litter picking event to raise money for Samaritans. The event took place from noon on 31 July 2021 until noon on 1 August 2021.
We just loved the idea because the Litterbusters aim to build community and prevent isolation in the Earlsdon/Spon End/Chapelfields areas of Coventry, where we are based. Just like us, Litterbusters is run by volunteers and again, just like us, this event ran throughout the day and night.
In 2021 we received generous donations from local people and businesses in Brinklow, customers of Baginton Event Catering and Baginton Mill Allotments.
Comedian Sarah Millican invited Samaritans to collect donations after her performances at Warwick Arts Centre in October 2021. A grand total of £1906.19 was donated to our branch. It was really heart warming to hear Sarah as she told the audiences about the collections for Samaritans and there was a huge round of applause and cheers from the audience.
We spend all our money very carefully. The prisons service reimburses the costs we incur in supporting people in prison. Otherwise all our services are free. If you would like to raise funds for us, we would love to hear from you.
You can donate easily and quickly through our online fundraising platform Enthuse. If you are a taxpayer, your donation can be worth an extra 25p for every pound you give to us, just by saying you want to use the Gift Aid scheme. It will not cost you any extra.
For any fundraising enquiries, or if you would like to talk about donating through other methods like bank transfer or cheque, please do get in touch with us by clicking here.
Our regular costs include:

We also offer to reimburse our volunteers for their travelling expenses. Although they all give their time free of charge, often late at night or very early in the morning, we don’t want anyone to be out of pocket because they volunteer for us.
