We banished the Monday blues with a Samaritans brew
Chester and District Samaritans had a chilly but fun time encouraging people in Chester, Wrexham, Wirral and Deeside to beat Blue Monday by getting together for a cuppa on Monday 21 January 2019 for Brew Monday.
Dubbed ‘the most difficult day of the year’, we once again turned the 3rd Monday in January on its head, and banished the January blues by encouraging friends, family and work mates to have a chat over a brew.
Chester branch Samaritan volunteers were at Chester and Wrexham stations chatting to commuters and handing out free tea bags for an essential cuppa. And delicious cakes made by our own Support volunteer Jane of Chester Samaritans' 'Hard Core Caterers'!
Mike Nicol, Chester’s Branch Director said “Isolation and loneliness are one of the main reasons people contact Samaritans, so getting together for a brew with friends can provide a lift on what is meant to be one of the most difficult days of the year.”
And that’s exactly what our volunteer Gem did, in work in Wrexham, having baked no less than 4 different varieties of cakes – yum!
Ian Stevens, Network Rail’s Suicide Prevention programme manager said: “Brew Monday is a great opportunity for the rail industry to show its support for Samaritans and the great work they do in helping people up and down the country.
