Leigh Norwood, a leading member of the Friends of Cheltenham Samaritans, was awarded the Cheltenham Medal of Honour last week in recognition of his fundraising work over more than 45 years.
The Cheltenham Medal of Honour was presented to Leigh at the Mayor-Making ceremony at Cheltenham Town Hall. It was presented by the outgoing Mayor, Cllr Dr David Willigham, and the chair of the Medal of Honour Committee.
The award recognises outstanding voluntary service in Cheltenham. Leigh was nominated by Cllr Steve Harvey. During his time as Mayor, the Friends of Cheltenham Samaritans were Steve Harvey's charity of the year, and he remain a strong supporter of our fundraising work.
Leigh has been a member of the Friends of Cheltenham Samaritans for 47 years, has served as Chair five times, and has been instrumental in the success of a wide range of fundraising activities, including the Friends beer festivals, held twice a year in Pip and Jim's church.
Leigh was joined at the ceremony by his family, and by member of the Friends of Cheltenham Samaritans committee.
