On Saturday, 23 May, we attended the 2026 Chichester Pride Festival. It was a delight to once again attend this annual event and be surrounded by such a wonderful, positive atmosphere.
The day began with a colourful parade that started in Priory Park and travelled through the centre of the city before ending up on the front lawn of Chichester College, where the day’s main festivities took place.
Thankfully, the weather didn’t disappoint: it was a gloriously sunny day, perfect for a festival. In the morning, we assembled our fantastic new gazebo on the lawn and decorated it with Samaritans Pride flags – it looked incredible. We set up alongside many other organisations and charities also in attendance, which showcases the supportive community Chichester has. Throughout the day, various musical acts took to the main stage, spreading the message of love and inclusivity.
Many of our volunteers helped out throughout the day, greeting attendees with welcoming smiles and, in some cases, having some very heartfelt conversations. We are lucky to have so many dedicated volunteers, and attending Pride always provides us with ample opportunity to hear of the positive experiences people have had with our service.
It always means so much when someone stops by to thank us for being there for them when they were going through a tough time. Our continued presence at the festival is also an important way of raising awareness of our listening service, as we find some people are still not aware of the support available to them.
‘Pride is such a welcoming and inclusive event, and it’s important for us to show that Samaritans is here for anyone who may need support. We were delighted to take part,’ said our Branch Director, Paul.
It is a privilege to be involved with Chichester Pride and to celebrate diversity and acceptance. We are looking forward to attending many more Pride Festivals in the years to come.
