About our Bognor Regis, Chichester & District branch

Thank you for visiting the website for the Samaritans of Bognor Regis, Chichester & District. We have been part of our local community for over 50 years located near the seafront in sunny Bognor Regis.

The Samaritans services are available 24 hours a day to provide confidential emotional support for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide.

There are 200 branches of Samaritans in the UK, all of which are self-funding and staffed entirely by volunteers. Those in need of our service are able to call on 116 123 free from any phone. We also have an Outreach Programme where volunteers visit schools and local charities including Stonepillow and the Chichester Food Bank.

“It’s important that people who are having a really difficult time know that there’s someone to talk to,” – Samaritans’ volunteer Carolyn.

Branch volunteers are also very active in our local community. From helping secondary school pupils learn to listen and support one another, to offering face-to-face sessions with vulnerable homeless people, the work of the local Samaritans includes reaching out into the heart of the community and finding people often before they are in desperate need of its services. As part of our work over the last year, we have engaged in 150 face-to-face conversations with Stonepillow clients.

Volunteer with our branch

We are always looking for volunteers at our branch. You can volunteer to listen to our callers or to help us with the running of our branch as a support volunteer. Our Samaritans branch is nearest to you if you are in the towns of Chichester or Bognor Regis, or in the Arun or Chichester Council districts. David, a Branch leader, says “Callers’ issues and concerns have been made so much worse by isolation and loneliness since Covid-19. Mental health worries are very much in evidence as well as thoughts of suicide." Volunteer, Fatima agrees. "We really are needed more than ever."

Supporting us

Although Bognor Regis, Chichester & District Branch is part of the Central Samaritans Charity, we are self supporting and have to raise our own funds to cover our operating expenses and remain in our community. To do this we need your help to cover the annual costs of running the branch at 13 Argyle Road, Bognor Regis.

All money that is raised also helps to pay for the regular outreach work we do locally in the area. Also, donations support the training of our new and existing volunteers.
