We officially revealed our first Listening Bench on Tue 5 May in Lowndes Park, Chesham.
This initiative is about encouraging connection in the community. While Samaritans are there for people in their most difficult moments, the principle of listening is something we can all carry into everyday life. The Listening Bench is a simple, visible expression of that idea - creating a space where people can pause, connect, and perhaps begin a conversation.
The bench carries the message “Someone is always listening” and includes contact details for support organisations such as Samaritans, MIND, and Childline. In addition our bench also offers a few gentle prompts to encourage listening:
- Show you care
- Be present
- Just listen
- Try not to judge
- No advice needed
