About The Walk
In 1979 Teesside Samaritans designed a 40 mile circular walk over the North Yorkshire Moors,
This route is now recognised as 'The Samaritan Way' the branch decided to invite volunteers from
other branches to join them on this annual event to help raise funds for their own branches.

After three years the idea of annual The National Walk was developed and now branches from around the country host the walk each year.

For The National Walk's 40th Anniversary it is returning to Teesside Samaritans and to 'The Samaritan Way' in the North Yorkshire Moors.

The Walk will be held on Saturday 8th June 2019

We have two circular walks for you to choose from, a long (40k) walk and a short (20k) walk.

Both of the walks (40k and 20k) will start from;

Guisborough Rugby Club

Belmangate

Guisborough

North Yorkshire

TS14 7BB

Registration for both walks will open at 7.30am

The long walk (40k) will start at 8am and walkers must have set off before 8.30am as there will be a cut off time for the final check point.

The route for the long walk includes 4 check points where refreshments will be available at no additional cost.

The short walk (20k) will start at 9am and walkers must have set off before 9.30am as there will be a cut-off time for the final check point.

The route for the short walk includes 2 check points where refreshments will be available at no additional cost.

Both routes finish back at Guisborough Rugby Club.

Dogs are more than welcome on both of our walks however it is essential that they are kept on a lead at all times as both the long and short walks cross through moorland containing sheep and lambs and famers have the legal right to protect their flocks.

All walkers will be provided with a detailed map and instructions at registration on the morning of the walk, anyone interested in looking at the general terrain is recommend to look at Ordinance Survey Explorer OL 26 North York Moors map (western area).

It is recommended that you bring your own map case and refillable water bottle to minimise on single use plastics. Each walker will be presented with a certificate to mark their achievement at the end of the walk.

Please be assured that if for any reason any walker is unable to complete the walk there will be transport available to take participants back to Guisborough Rugby Club.

In response to several enquires about children walking, we felt it necessary to restructure our walking fees. We’ve implemented an ‘Evening Event Only’ and a reduced fee for children option on our booking form. Please note if you have already registered a child participant under an adult fee let us know so we can adjust accordingly.

After the walk we will be holding an Evening Event to celebrate 40 years of The National Walk, this event will be held at;

Guisborough Territorial Club

Rectory Lane

Guisborough

TS14 6QQ

This venue is less than quarter of a mile from Guisborough Rugby Club.

The event will start at 7.30pm and will include food and entertainment (we promise entertainment won’t be too loud) this will be a unique opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones from Samaritans branches across the country!

Deadline for registration will be 24th May 2019 places are limited, first come first served, in order to secure your place please make payment within 14 days of submitting your application.
