Samaritans 2023 winter campaign toolkit for trusted partners and funders.
Last winter, our volunteers answered almost 250,000 calls for help.
This year we know that many people are finding things really tough. We’re concerned about the rising cost of living and its impact on people’s wellbeing. Due to the rise in food, energy and fuel costs, many people are finding it harder to make ends meet.
Suicide is complex and is rarely caused by one thing. However, there is strong evidence of associations between financial difficulties, mental health and suicide.
Someone in the UK dies by suicide every 90 minutes. With your help, we can be there to listen to anybody who needs to talk, before it’s too late.
Please show your support for our Break the Silence campaign today and help let more people know that they don’t have to suffer in silence. There is help out there when they’re ready to break their silence – all they have to do is call.
This toolkit has been put together to help you support Samaritans' 2023 winter campaign – #BreakTheSilence
As a trusted partner and funder of Samaritans, your support is vital.
Contact your Account Manager if you have any questions on the toolkit.

Help Samaritans break the silence around suicide
We’re proud to help promote our charity partner Samaritans new fundraising campaign https://www.samaritans.org/break-the-silence-stories/ this winter.
Someone in the UK dies by suicide every 90 minutes. But suicide can be prevented, and talking to Samaritans can help people find a way through their pain. The aim of the campaign is to get people talking about suicidal feelings to help prevent those struggling from reaching crisis point. Because silence costs lives.
It aims to promote the idea that talking is the most powerful way to stamp out the stigma that surrounds suicide. Having the courage to say the word itself can help prevent someone from taking their own life.
The campaign includes the stories of people who have contacted Samaritans themselves. One of those callers was Bella: “There was one evening things got way too much, I’d had enough, I just wanted to go somewhere, anywhere. And then I phoned the Samaritans. I'm here today because Samaritans was there to listen.”
For years, Bella didn’t break her silence because she didn’t believe she would be listened to, or understood. The Samaritans volunteer she spoke to made her feel that her life had value. She says that hearing those words, and believing them, helped give her the confidence to go on. Now a successful motivational speaker, Bella uses her experience to encourage more people to be open and talk about their mental health.
You can help support the campaign, and ensure Samaritans is always there to listen, by sharing the charity’s posts on Twitter or LinkedIn.
Samaritans volunteers respond to a call for help every 10 seconds. But they can’t do it alone. Times are tough for many right now. But if you can, why not consider making a donation to Samaritans? Your donation could save a life. Together, we can break the silence.
Samaritans is there day or night, for anyone who’s struggling to cope, and who needs someone to listen without judgement or pressure. If you’re struggling, you can contact Samaritans any time of the day or night by phoning 116 123 or emailing [email protected]
