Samaritans' statement on footballer, Clarke Carlisle, speaking out about his suicide attempt
Footballer Clarke Carlisle speaking out about his suicide attempt has been widely publicised in the media today. It takes a lot of strength to raise these issues. We commend him for being so brave and speaking so openly about the feelings which led him to try to take his own life.
Because he has spoken out, we hope others will feel able to share their own feelings if they are struggling to cope and crucially, ask for help.
You don’t have to be suicidal to contact Samaritans, we are here round the clock, every day of the year. People can be themselves whoever they are, however they feel and whatever life’s done to them. Samaritans can be contacted by phone on 116 123, via email firstname.lastname@example.org or find the details for your local branch at www.samaritans.org
