Samaritans is proud to have the support of the cast and crew of Amazing Grace, a new film encouraging more open conversations about mental health and suicidal thoughts.
The film tells the story of Walter (played by Daniel P. Lewis), a deeply isolated man reaching his breaking point, and Grace (played by Hannah Walters), the fictional crisis helpline volunteer who answers his call.
Written by Daniel P. Lewis and drawing on themes from his own lived experience, Amazing Grace explores some of the realities behind mental ill health, but ultimately, it is a story about hope, human connection, and what can happen when somebody genuinely listens.
At the heart of the film is a simple line:
“Everyone needs help at some point in their lives, don’t they?”
The cast and crew of Amazing Grace are encouraging people to keep talking, keep listening and remember that nobody should have to face their darkest moments alone – your words could interrupt someone’s suicidal thoughts and save a life.
The world premiere is taking place in Liverpool on 29 October, with local Samaritans volunteers attending to raise awareness and funds. A UK theatrical release through Screenbound Pictures follows from 6 November.
