Over the two-year partnership, the Society will aim to raise an impressive £250,000. This will go towards updating vital IT infrastructure across our local branches, so our volunteers can respond to the increasing number of calls, texts and emails from vulnerable people.
It was important for the Society to partner with a charity with a strong national profile, as well as roots in local communities. Samaritans is one of the UK’s most trusted charities, with 201 branches and over 20,000 volunteers.
Thanks to this local presence, many of the Society’s branches have linked-up with local Samaritans teams to volunteer their time and raise money in their communities.
After just three months, the Society raised a fantastic £40,000 through creative fundraising activities including Brew Monday and a '100 ways to say hello' competition.
Employees across the Society have embraced the partnership, including CEO, Peter Hill, who visited our Leeds branch to see first-hand how our listening service operates. We’ve also benefitted from the Society’s skilled and experienced staff volunteering at our local shops.
Listening is an incredibly important part of how we choose to operate as a business, and this sits at the heart of what makes Samaritans such a special charity. We’re really proud to have chosen Samaritans for our first charity partnership. Richard Fearon, Leeds Building Society’s Chief Commercial Officer
Leeds Building Society is also giving its members the opportunity to join the fundraising efforts, through its 'Your Interest in Theirs' scheme.
