How we can help
We are currently unable to offer face-to-face emotional support due to the global pandemic. This will be resumed as soon as it is safe to do so. We are currently able to host free virtual information evenings, workshops and training events where you can learn more about what Samaritans does and about active listening. Get in touch if you would like to arrange a bespoke event for your organisation or team.
We offer a safe space for callers to talk, over email or on the phone. We listen without judgement, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Whatever you're facing, you don't have to face it alone.
Our volunteers train and support people in prison on an ongoing basis to become Listeners inside the prison. We don't provide face-to-face emotional support directly to people inside the prison. Instead, we pass on our listening skills to specially selected prisoners so they can help their peers. Or to put it another way: we help to run a prison-based "mini Samaritans branch" where the listening shifts are all staffed by people in prison.
