The Samaritans Hub in Sevenoaks recently celebrated its fifth anniversary, marking five years of dedicated emotional support and community outreach.
Marking Five Years of Community Support
On October 5th, the Samaritans Hub in Sevenoaks proudly celebrated its fifth anniversary, highlighting five years dedicated to listening, supporting, and standing by individuals in need throughout the country via Samaritans national hotline 116123 and in our local community through our Outreach program.
Growth and Dedication
Since opening our doors in 2020, the Sevenoaks Hub has transformed from a modest local team into a vibrant community of over 150 volunteers. Our team includes listeners, support staff, remote leaders, mentors, trainers and members of our outreach group.
Providing a Lifeline
Each month, our volunteers collectively dedicate over 1,000 hours to the national phone support, creating a safe and confidential space for those struggling to cope. This steadfast commitment means no one has to face life’s difficulties alone, whether it is day or night, weekday or weekend.
Expanding Our Outreach
Over the past five years, our outreach programme has grown significantly. What began with modest efforts has become an essential aspect of our work in the community. We now make regular visits to local foodbanks and colleges to support their users and students, give talks on listening skills to local business and promote emotional wellbeing in the Sevenoaks Community. Our team also actively contributes to the Prison Listener Scheme in two prisons on the Isle of Sheppey, providing training and support to prisoners who volunteer to help their peers.
Gratitude and Looking Ahead
Reflecting on all that has been accomplished, we are deeply grateful to everyone who has played a part in this journey—our remarkable volunteers, supportive partners, remote volunteers from other Samaritans branches and the wider community. Your commitment and compassion have made reaching this milestone possible.
As we look to the future, our mission remains clear: to continue growing, listening, and ensuring that anyone who needs someone to talk to will always find a listening ear at the Sevenoaks Hub.
