Aged 13-17, living in the Wakefield district and looking for a volunteering opportunity?
Maybe WYSA could be for you!
Why would Samaritans want young volunteers?
Many young people find it difficult to locate meaningful volunteering opportunities, but we recognise that young volunteers have a vast amount to offer, and that it is necessary to support them if we are to encourage them to volunteer when they are older and safeguard our own future as a voluntary organisation.
We know that young people have enthusiasm, energy and passion for issues that matter to them, and that there has never been a better time for charities to embrace a generation of school-aged volunteers.
As a Wakefield Young Samaritans Ambassador, you would be expected to raise the profile of Samaritans in your schools and communities, by working with other WYSAs from schools all over Wakefield (and supervised by Samaritans volunteers) on projects that you decide on, plan and execute. These will support work that is done by other volunteers, for Outreach, Publicity and Fundraising.
So what’s in it for me?
As well as the satisfaction of doing something that matters, you will also
- Get to know and socialise with students from other schools
- Receive free training on Listening Skills and Working Together
- Gain confidence through the skills that you can use in the future e.g.:
- Project Planning
- Group Work
- Budget Handling
This volunteering experience can also be used as the Community Service portion of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme, or can be added to your Record of Achievement or UCAS application.
