Redrock Goes Green!

Wednesday 20th December 2017
A number of iconic landmarks are being lit up in green on December 22nd, including Stockport’s new cinema and leisure destination, Redrock, as well as St Peters Square, Stockport Exchange and the Coop Pyramid. This is to remind people that Samaritans are there to support people 24/7 throughout the festive period. More than 11,000 volunteers across the UK and Ireland will be working shifts for the charity to ensure our helpline is open round the clock, even on Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.

In total, Samaritans are set to listen for a hundred thousand hours this Christmas.

Sam Walters, the Stockport Samaritans Director said: “We know that for all sorts of reasons, the festive period can be one of the most difficult times of year for many people. People may be worried about money, under great pressure, missing someone they've lost or feeling lonely or depressed. Lighting up these iconic buildings is a visual reminder to people across Stockport that around the country Samaritans volunteers are available any time, day or night, including all over the holidays, for anyone who is finding life difficult or needs someone to talk to.”

A spokesperson for Stockport Council and the Redrock development said: “We’re glad we can do something to raise awareness of where people can turn to should they find themselves needing help, at what can be the hardest time of year for many.”

Anyone in distress can talk to Samaritans any time they like, in their own way and off the record, about whatever is getting to them. To contact Samaritans you can call for free on 116 123 or email round the clock, every single day of the year.
