Samaritans of Ipswich and East Suffolk
We've been proudly supporting the local community for more than 50 years.
We currently have around 80 volunteers at our branch on St Helen's Street in Ipswich. Most of our branch volunteers are listening volunteers, who provide emotional support to people by phone, email, text, and by receiving branch visitors.
We also support people at probation hostels, soup kitchens and prisons, and at events like Suffolk Pride, Ipswich Music Day and Felixstowe Carnival.
In 2017 volunteers at our branch had contact with more than 17,500 people. This included:
- 20,043 phone calls
- 1,165 emails
- 972 texts
- 100 visitors to our branch
- 3,784 Hours on the telephone
We also have Support Volunteers, they do vital work that contributes to running our branch, including fundraising, administration, raising awareness and working at our shop on Carr Street, Ipswich.
