Dunfermline Samaritans visit SKY Dunfermline & Livingston call centres.
Samaritans of Dunfermline teamed up with SKY this week to visit their Dunfermline and Livingston sites. Whilst there volunteers spoke to staff members about the work of Samaritans within their local communities, in the branches and how they can support them or anyone in times of crisis any time via text, call or email.
Director Ged Lafferty said: “We did get an appreciation of the working environment in Sky; it is different in each centre but generally supportive of the management efforts to look after the workers and their welfare.”
Our volunteers Marge, Sheila, Janette, Elaine, Heather and Ann had an excellent day on both sites chatting to the employees about how we can support them in times of need and how volunteering can benefit them as well as our callers. For instance they can develop new listening and communication skills which are relevant within a contact centre environment. Seven employees are now interested in becoming part of our listening team.
Asked if Samaritans of Dunfermline would return to the sites Ged stated: “We have been asked to return possibly on a weekend due to the shift patterns which we are more than happy to do. We hope we can visit more local businesses to promote support for employees and spread awareness of the support Samaritans can offer.”
Sky has also made a generous donation of £200 to Samaritans of Dunfermline which will be used to continue our work in the community and the branch.
