Some of the Horsham and Crawley Samaritans volunteers spent their afternoon over at Hilliers garden centre collecting donations from the public as well as engaging in meaningful conversations.
Who wouldn't want to be at a garden centre on a Sunday!
Not only did they receive cash and card reader donations, but the team had all sorts of conversations with the public. Alongside many, many people telling us how valued our service is, we also had enquiries about becoming a volunteer.
While at Hilliers, the volunteers spoke to someone who lives locally and joined as a Central Charity employee this year. They look after the digital media. She also knew a lot about what we do as her local branch, and jumped at the chance to visit the branch.
I am immensely proud to be involved with the Samaritans.

Our volunteers also had the privilege of meeting Horsham and Crawley Samaritans volunteer no.15! She told us how she’d been one of the founder members of H&C and she talked of the very early days at Park Street, before moving to Denne Road. She was also made up to hear that number 15 was still hers alone, with us climbing to over no.1300!
June, no.15 will always be yours 💚
