On the 16th August the Horsham and Crawley Samaritan volunteers headed out to celebrate the 5th annual Crawley Pride.
A day filled with fun and celebration despite the lack of sunshine.
A happy band of volunteers spent the summer Saturday amongst the varied stalls, fairground rides, performers and visitors of Crawley Pride.
Engagement with other local groups and organisations as well as with visitors of all ages is always interesting and enlightening and the opportunity to work together with other volunteers is always inspiring.
The willingness of everyone to engage with respect and genuine interest helped to make the day rewarding and the art table we provided a creative outlet for some.
Our presence is a reminder of the importance of our service in the community.
Alison, a volunteer at the event.
The aims of Crawley LGBT+, the company behind Crawley pride, is to raise awareness of the issues facing the LGBT+ community and to promote Crawley as a safe place for members of the community. They also want to create a sense of belonging and identity for the LGBT+ community in Crawley. This will be done through planning and managing annual events and supporting developments of services for the LGBT+ community in Crawley.

Of course, the Samaritans volunteers sporting the infamous green tops had to get a picture in the green lorry on this fairground ride, it would be wrong not to!
