If you like what we do at Samaritans, you can make a difference by joining our branch as a volunteer. As well as helping people, you might make new friends, have fun, and learn something new too.
I always feel so proud putting on the green tabard because of what it represents and how people respond.
Our Branch is run solely by our amazing and friendly volunteers who come from all walks of life from across North Hertfordshire. We are always looking to recruit new volunteers from within our many different local communities. Our next Information Evenings are on 12 March and 8 April. If you would like to attend please apply via the Samaritans.org website - we promise you a warm welcome!
- Listening Volunteer: Our amazing team of listening volunteers make sure that everyone has someone to turn to. It is an incredibly rewarding role and you will be supported every step of the way with extensive training and mentors to guide you. As a listening volunteer you will need to be able to commit to at least one 3 hour daytime/evening shift a week, and one 3 hour nighttime shift each month where possible. As we are open at all hours and over weekends, you can even fit your shifts around education, part time or full time employment.
- Outreach Volunteer: Would you like to attend local events, reach out to new people or inspire a student to get the help they need? Our team of outreach volunteers raise awareness of Samaritans and make sure everyone knows we are here if they need to talk. They go to events, give talks in local schools, colleges, workplaces and hold awareness sessions in community spaces. You can find out more about our outreach work by visiting our outreach page.
- Support Volunteer: You don't have to be a Listener to become involved with Samaritans. We are always delighted to welcome new support volunteers and appreciate any help you can give. Our volunteer team also have a lot of fun!
- There are all kinds of ways you can get involved, so whether you have a talent for marketing, IT, DIY, administration, or other professional skills we'd love to hear from you.
- And, of course, we are always looking to increase our support volunteers who can help us raise the much-needed funds to keep our branch operating so we can continue to provide emotional support to those who need it. Get in touch to talk find out about ways you can help.
