Hastings and Rother Samaritans volunteers walked proudly in the Hastings Pride parade to show our LGBTQ+ community that Samaritans and our local branch are here for them and that they matter.
There was a fantastic atmosphere of support and appreciation for Samaritans. We also had a stand in the Wellbeing section of the Oval where our volunteers dispensed stickers and rainbows, along with information about what Samaritans can offer to callers and to potential volunteers.
Here are some of our volunteers' comments about the day:
“The one thing we all felt was how so many people applauded us as we walked past them. Made you realise how much we’re appreciated.”
“It was amazing to be a part of the parade. All the colour, and excitement, and people being together. It was very emotional.”
“It felt amazing to march so visibly in support of the LGBTQ+ community. Being part of something that brings people together and celebrates our differences made me proud.”
