Creating Hope Through Action.

To mark World Suicide Prevention Day Samaritans is encouraging people in Gloucestershire to talk to each other and share the things in life that give them hope.

Sharing ways of remaining hopeful could support anyone struggling to cope and be an important reminder that you do not have to struggle alone, help and support is available.

Whether it’s a group activity or something can you do in your own time, sharing ideas about what you turn to when you’re feeling low is a simple yet effective way to help friends and family who are struggling. You don’t have to be an expert to make a difference, and potentially save someone’s life

Some of the things that Gloucester & District Samaritans do:

  • Put my iPod on and sing loudly whilst out on my bike
  • I find swimming is the best way to take a break from the here-and-now
  • Having a cup of tea with a close friend
  • Looking out to sea and watching the waves crash
  • Deep tissue relaxation. Tensing and relaxing various muscle groups
  • Get my shears out and do some gentle pruning in the garden

To help inspire people, Samaritans has created several new resources, including suggested activities, useful tips, and a mood-boosting playlist. Link - https://www.samaritans.org/how-we-can-help/if-youre-having-difficult-time/staying-hopeful

Please do keep suicide prevention in your mind every day, with every person you meet - and familiarise yourselves with how you can spot the signs that someone might be struggling. Take a look at our YouTube webinars - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYV8gCRwVAsHsapcavvtobQ

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, we are temporarily unable to support callers face to face at Gloucester & District branch. Callers can continue to speak to us by phone or email.
