Welcome to Edinburgh & the Lothians Samaritans

Edinburgh & the Lothian Branch

We're currently unable to see visitors in person, but we will continue to support callers by phone and email.

Opening our doors on 1st June 1959, Edinburgh & the Lothians Samaritans is currently celebrating 60 years of listening. We were the 2nd branch of Samaritans to open in the UK and the first to open in Scotland. Our volunteers pride themselves in being there for people when they need a safe place to talk.

From our base in 25 Torphichen Street, our volunteers work with different communities throughout Edinburgh, including schools, prisons & Network Rail to ensure awareness of what we do and so that our service is known throughout the city and the surrounding areas. All of the services and support we offer is provided by volunteers.

Due to the Coronavirus, we've suspended our recruitment process & outreach programmes until further notice. However, our volunteering pages are packed with information on the different volunteering opportunities available within Samaritans.

With Coronavirus at the front of everyone's minds, our charity pulled together resources to help during this time.
