The Samaritans of Buxton and High Peak Branch founded in 1975.
Our volunteers come from Buxton, Glossop and the surrounding High Peak area. Our approximately 50 volunteers provide an incredibly valuable service, each month dealing with an average 850 calls over in excess of 200 hours and responds to an average of 150 emails and SMS.
We are passionate about the support we give to our community, we recently took part in Brew Monday at Glossop train station and we are always looking at new ways to support people outside of the branch.

- Each year, every Samaritans Branch is expected to raise their own funds to support their local service. The Buxton volunteers are grateful for the very important fundraising activities that help them continue to provide the excellent service they give.
It costs over £40 per day to run the Buxton Samaritans Branch. One way to easily raise money is to do your online shopping via Easyfundraising - a portal that provides access to all major retailers who donate a percentage of your spend without it costing you a penny. 💚Given the current situation with the Coronavirus outbreak we have taken the decision at our Buxton branch to stop all face to face appointments until further notice.
💚Named by the government as a critical support to vulnerable people during the current crisis, Samaritans are desperately in need of community help ourselves if we are to continue our ‘always there’ listening service to those who find it most difficult to cope with the stresses of sudden bereavement, unemployment, increased isolation and myriad other pressure points.
💚Here at Buxton & High Peak Samaritans we are doing our best to continue to provide our listening service during these difficult times, but now more than ever we need the community to support us with vital fund raising.
💚Branch director, Jill Pearson says the situation is critical. ‘Due to the unavoidable cancellation of our normal fund raising activity, we face a big financial shortfall. If anyone can help us with a donation, no matter how big or small, it will mean so much to ensure we can still be here for anyone who needs our support to cope getting through these terrible days.’
💚If you would like to make a donation to the Buxton & High Peak branch please click on the donation button below which will take you to our Virgin Money Giving page. Alternatively local residents are invited to join the branch “200 Club” with a chance to win monthly cash prizes as well as making regular contributions to the branch finances. For more information please email [email protected]
However you choose to help, please know your donation will be greatly appreciated not just by your local Samaritans volunteers but by the thousands who find support and comfort from having someone to talk to in their time of need. 💚
💚Please remember we are devoted to helping you and listening to you unconditionally, no matter what situation you find yourself in! Please talk to us on 116 123. 💚
