Samaritans of Bournemouth and District celebrates 65 years of listening, in 2026, by announcing their new Patron
Samaritans of Bournemouth and District is celebrating providing 65 years of emotional support to people who are struggling and their life-saving work helping others in the local community. To mark this milestone, the branch is delighted to announce the appointment of Nigel Smith, Managing Partner and Solicitor at Ellis Jones Solicitors.
Mathew and Barbara, Co-Branch Directors, at Bournemouth Samaritans, said “We are so pleased to reach this important landmark of 65 years in service. Without our wonderful volunteers, from our local community, we would not be able to offer the help and support we give so many who are finding life tough and need a confidential listening ear. With this in mind, we are pleased to appoint Nigel Smith as our new Branch Patron. Nigel brings significant experience and knowledge and we look forward to introducing Nigel to our volunteers and wider supporters”.
Nigel joins Dr Andy Mayers, as Bournemouth Samaritans Patron to represent and promote the work the Branch does. Nigel said, “I am delighted to accept Bournemouth branch’s invitation to join as Patron and look forward to ensuring the work of the Branch is recognised in our wider communities. Especially in the branch’s 65th year of listening.”
Dr Mayers has welcomed Nigel joining him in the role of Patron of Bournemouth Samaritans: “I welcome Nigel joining me in the very important role as Patron of Samaritans of Bournemouth and District. I very much look forward to working together and talking about the important work the branch does both nationally and in the local community.”
