Could this be you? Find out about volunteering at Borders Samaritans - come to our next Information Evening 6:45pm for 7pm Wednesday 5 July 2017

In 2014, our latest year for data, 34 Samaritans listening volunteers from the Borders branch answered 6,317 calls for help. Another five Samaritans support volunteers contributed as fantastic fundraisers, IT wizards, ace administrators - and more.

Our branch exists to help callers in emotional distress find a supportive, accepting, truly listening human being, ready to give someone time when they most need it.  We need people who, after training and selection, can commit to offering that service on a regular weekly basis (with holiday breaks of course).

We also need people who, after learning and understanding what our service is about, contribute their skills to supporting the running of the branch e.g. fundraising can involve organising a whole event, or shaking a can, or baking for a stall, or putting up posters etc. Our building needs maintaining and cleaning, the service we offer needs publicising... there aren’t many skills that our branch can’t use or any time big or small, regular or irregular, that we won’t appreciate.

If any of this interests you, come along to an information evening where our volunteers will give you fuller information and let you know of the support for volunteers that is also at the core of what we do. We want you to get a real sense of what being part of our branch is like, so of course we there will be tea and biscuits! This event is genuinely for you to find out more and be able to ask questions, so you can then think about whether you want to consider applying to volunteer on the helpline or to support the branch in making the service possible. We know that Borders Samaritans can make a difference; come along and find out if that's for you too. The next Information Evening is Monday 5th July 2017.

The venue is our branch office at: 21 West Port, Selkirk TD7 4GD. We start at 7pm and expect to end around 9pm. Call or text 07857 09 81 86 (your network charges apply) or email to register your interest, or simply turn up on the night. If you can’t make it to the next event but would like to find out about volunteering at our branch, please click the volunteer button on the right to connect with us so we can keep you informed. When we hold information events, details are posted here.

(Please note, this is not a number or email for the helpline. If something’s troubling you and you want to get in touch with Samaritans, call 116 123 or email
