Welcome to the Samaritans of Northumbria
My name is Michael and I am the Director of Samaritans of Northumbria. Our branches iare located in Ashington and Berwick-upon-Tweed, both in Northumberland, and we draw volunteers from all over the county. Our volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds and find their involvement with Samaritans a very rewarding experience.
An unusual aspect of our branch is that we provide training and support to prison inmates who are then able to act as listening volunteers to other prisoners.
We are always looking for volunteers, whether that is to answer phone calls or provide support in other (fundraising, IT, admin) ways. Please contact us to find out more. You will be sure of a very warm welcome.
Volunteering with us
We rely on volunteers to run our service:
Listening Volunteers who are available day and night to respond to our callers, and Support Volunteers who help with all aspects of keeping things running.
Find out more by following the “Volunteer at this branch” link at the bottom of this page.
We’re particularly keen to hear from anyone who is interested in positively affecting and supporting the work of Samaritans in the Berwick and Borders region in the following roles:
FUNDRAISING TEAM LEAD:
This person will establish and lead a team who will both fundraise and raise awareness of Berwick and Borders Samaritans. This is a vital role that helps to raise the money that keeps our service running. No experience is needed, but this role will suit an organised and enthusiastic people person with good written skills. Support and training will be provided by the Samaritans Fundraising Team, and other members of the team will support fundraising activities.
MARKETING AND PUBLICITY LEAD:
This person will provide marketing and publicity support to Berwick and Borders Samaritans. Creating and owning plans for communications that support recruitment and promote the work of Samaritans. Strong written communication skills and an interest in communicating the work and impact of Samaritans are a must.
