Voting is taking place today and tomorrow to choose the charities that will benefit from QUB student RAG 2020 and Belfast Samaritans is one of the charities shortlisted
Belfast Samaritans is one of the charities shortlisted for the 2020 Raise and Give (RAG) fundraising set of activities organised by the students of Queens University Students Union. Each year students across the university engage in a wide range of activities to raise much-needed cash for charities. From endurance and musical events through comedy and acrobatic to the outlandish and downright daft, it all adds up to a load of fun for all but also raises a serious amount of income that goes to help the work of a wide range of good causes.
Students are choosing the officers who will represent them in the students union in the incoming year but also choose from a shortlist of charities which ones will be fortunate enough to benefit from the fundraising events. If you're a student and haven't voted yet you can still do so at the students union website at qubsu.org
Samaritans in Belfast forms part of the wider network of local branches operating across the whole of the UK & Ireland. We support people in distress and who may be at risk of suicide. We do this by offering a supportive listening ear where people can explore what is going on in a confidential safe space and in so doing find a way to move forward.
All of our support for those who contact us for help is delivered by volunteers working locally in a branch so you can be sure that every penny raised in support is spent extremely effectively. We also work in the local community by running sessions in chools, colleges, universities and workplaces that promote awareness of the importance of maintaining emotional wellbeing and connecting with others by listening and talking.
