Gail Porter - Ambassador

Gail Porter is a Scottish television presenter, former model and actress.

Gail has supported Samaritans for many years, having first got in touch with us in 2012 and often credits us as having helped her through some difficult moments in her life.

Over the years, Gail has helped raise awareness of some of our key campaigns and moments such as Samarathon and World Mental Health Day. In 2019, for our inaugural Samarathon launch Gail appeared on the Lorraine show and talked passionately about the difference Samaritans makes and this resulted in great press pick up and a spike in sign-ups.

Gail has regularly spoken out publicly about her own mental health and at the start of 2020 released her documentary ‘Being Gail Porter’, in which she spoke candidly about her struggles with depression. She once again helped us promote Samarathon through her social media channels, helping us to raise over half a million pounds.

For our How to Listen book, published in January 2021, Gail contributed a written piece about her personal experiences and the importance of being listened to. Gail is a true advocate for Samaritans’ work and has also supported some of our branches to raise awareness of their work in local communities.

Samaritans has also helped me endlessly, you do such amazing work, thank you.
