Tottenham Hotspur is encouraging football fans to reach out for support when they need it most by making a call to Samaritans.
One in four people will experience suicidal thoughts* yet stigma still prevents many from seeking help, so too often people face this struggle in silence. As part of the Premier League and Samaritans’ Together Against Suicide initiative, Spurs is making a powerful statement to remind fans that ‘To Talk Is To Do’.
To Talk Is To Do
Spurs’ powerful film shows the power of picking up the phone to say “I’m not OK”. It features a man who is struggling to cope and the impact of a simple phone call to help him to find his own way through. A white telephone box features prominently, a reminder that there’s always someone here to listen. Every hour of every day.
If you’re going through a tough time
Life can be tough. Relationships. Work. Money. Loneliness. Mental health. Self-harm. We can all struggle. Any place. Any time.
If life’s hard right now, Samaritans are here to listen so you don’t have to face it alone. You can call us free on 116 123 at any time, day or night. We won’t judge you or tell you what to do.
What happens when you call Samaritans
A volunteer will answer
If you phone us, we will answer with something like "Samaritans, can I help you?"
You talk, we listen
We listen to you and help you talk through your concerns, worries and troubles.
If you aren't sure what to say
We can ask a few simple questions to help you feel able to open up. Don't worry if you feel nervous or unsure about what to say, that's common.
We give you space to be yourself
We'll focus on your thoughts and feelings, and may ask questions to help you explore how you feel.
We won't tell you what you should do
We won't make decisions for you, our advice or opinions are not important for the call.
The call will last as long as you need it to
It will end when you feel ready. Before you go we’ll remind you that you can call us back whenever you need to.
