We are proud of our partnership with Central Co-op, working together to connect communities for better mental health.
Central Co-op is guided by co-operative values and a purpose to create a sustainable society for all.
Central Co-op Members made it clear that they wanted to focus on mental health when voting for a new charity partner.
What makes this partnership so special is that Central Co-op and Samaritans are united by shared values. Like Central Co-op, Samaritans places community and human connection at the heart of everything we do. And we believe we can empower others through the power of listening.
Over the course of our three-year partnership, we aim to embed Samaritans’ support into various aspects of Central Co-op's organisation, from raising awareness amongst customers to training colleagues to spot and support anyone struggling to cope. We also hope to raise significant funds through in-store customer donations via Pennies, cash donations, in-memory giving and employee fundraising.
“We are honoured that thousands of Central Co-op members voted Samaritans to be their new charity partnership and there is no better time to launch our work together than on World Mental Health Day, when we are all reminded to consider our own, and each other’s, wellbeing. “Samaritans volunteers answer a call for help every 10 seconds, day or night. It’s thanks to public donations and partnerships with generous organisations like Central Co-op that Samaritans is able to be there for anyone struggling to cope and we can’t wait to see the positive impact our work together will have.”
Julie Bentley, CEO at Samaritans
“We’re thrilled to have Samaritans as our charity partner. Our Members made it clear that mental health is a priority and voted for a partner that provides essential mental health support, so we listened and acted. This partnership is a perfect reflection of Central Co-op’s core values of self-help, solidarity and community, and the focus Samaritans places on providing round-the-clock care and support is truly inspiring. We’re excited to work together to make a significant impact by raising awareness around mental health and ensuring that anyone who needs support knows they have someone to turn to, 24/7.”
Debbie Robinson, CEO at Central Co-op
Every 10 seconds, Samaritans responds to a call for help. The funds raised through the partnership will ensure that Samaritans can continue to be there for people, whatever they’re facing, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
