3 Actions 4 Change: General Election 2024

Ahead of the General Election in 2024, Samaritans Ireland published our asks calling on the incoming government to focus on surrounding mental health.

Samaritans vision is that fewer people die by suicide. We are Ireland’s only 24-hour emotional support helpline, with volunteers answering a call every 61 seconds.

We support people in communities, schools, festivals, and prisons across the country, and also work closely with political leaders, policymakers and other organisations to influence change, which we believe can reduce the risks of suicide.

We call on candidates across the country to consider Samaritans’ Key Priorities for the 34th Programme for Government – 3Actions4Change.

These include calls to:

  1. Combat loneliness
  2. Champion the wellbeing of moderators
  3. Commit to using responsible language

Detailed briefing documents are on www.samaritans.ie/election24.
