Senedd elections are due to be held on Thursday 7th May 2026. These elections will see an increased number of Senedd Members elected across a new set of constituency areas.
Samaritans Cymru want to ensure that:
Our team is already talking to all Welsh political parties as they develop their Senedd election manifestos - documents that set out what they would seek to deliver in Government. Over the coming months we will be meeting with existing Senedd Members and candidates from all parties and across Wales to explain the work of Samaritans and highlight our priorities.
The next Welsh Government must continue to prioritise suicide prevention in Wales.
Whatever the make-up of the Welsh Government after the upcoming Senedd elections, the next Government must work to deliver on suicide prevention and mental health in Wales. The promising plans laid out in both the Mental Health and Wellbeing and the Suicide and Self Harm strategies must become a reality.

We make these calls alongside our colleagues at Adferiad, Beat eating disorders, Mental Health Matters Wales, Mental Health Foundation, Mind Cymru, Papyrus: Prevention of Young Suicide, and Platfform.
