About Barnsley Samaritans

Barnsley Samaritans has been helping people for over 47 years, we received our first call in 1968. We moved location to Victoria Road in 1970 however today you will find us on the edge of Barnsley town centre where we have been since 1991, from here we provide confidential support to people from all over the area.

In 2014 Barnsley Samaritans had 14,800 individual contacts.

The branch is an important part of the community and we attend events, give talks and work with local organisations to increase awareness of Samaritans service and promote emotional wellbeing. For more information about the service we offer, visit our page on how we can help you

Volunteering with Barnsley Samaritans - All Samaritans branches are run by volunteers. New people, who want to help, are warmly welcomed. We have various roles to fill including: 

· Listening Volunteer, IT Support Volunteer, Admin Support Volunteer, Fundraising Volunteer

  • The Big Event

    10th May 2017
    The Big Event At Horizon Community College was hosted to provide information advice and guidance to the Barnsley Community to get people talking about mental health
  • World Record Challenge

    23rd April 2017
    London Marathon 2017. Warren Edwicker, whose wife is a volunteer, broke the Guinness World Record for the fastest marathon dressed as a telephone box.
  • Challenge Ouss

    14th April 2017
    The Branch organised a wonderful Publicity and Fundraising event at the Alhambra Centre on Friday 14th April. Lots of people were happy to ‘Challenge Ouss’, and they were all amazed by his knowledge of all the flags, countries and capitals of the world.
  • Great North Run - Amy's story
