The 2025 Great North Run took place on Sunday, 7 September 2025. 60,000 runners took on the 13.1‑mile route from Newcastle to South Shields and Chris ran for Medway Samaritans.
When Chris put his name into the ballot for the Great North Run, he never expected to be chosen. Having only ever run 5k during lockdown, the idea of tackling a half marathon felt daunting. But Chris embraced the challenge, knowing he wasn’t just running for himself—he was running for his community.
On 7th September, Chris took on his first half marathon in support of the Samaritans of Medway, Gravesham and Swale.
Thanks to the generosity of Chris and his friends, family, and supporters, he raised over £1,161, surpassing his target and proving that every step can make a difference.
The funds raised will help Samaritans continue to be there—day or night—for anyone struggling to cope. Every conversation, every volunteer, and every act of support is powered by donations like these.
Chris’s story shows that ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things when they run, walk, or simply stand alongside Samaritans.
Whether you sponsor a fundraiser, start your own challenge, or give a one-off donation, you’ll be helping us ensure fewer lives are lost to suicide and more people find the strength to carry on.
