Come and find out about volunteering with us at Preston Samaritans
Volunteering for Preston Samaritans
Volunteering with Preston Samaritans means becoming part of a warm, supportive team dedicated to helping people who need someone to listen. The aim is simple but powerful: to provide a safe, confidential space where people can talk openly about their thoughts and feelings.
New volunteers go through an induction and training programme designed to build confidence in listening skills, empathy, and how to support callers sensitively. We also welcome volunteers in non-listening roles, such as fundraising, promotion, administration, or maintaining the branch.
People choose to volunteer with Samaritans for many reasons: to give time to a cause that truly makes a difference, to learn valuable communication skills, to meet new people, or simply because they want to support others in a meaningful way. Whatever the motivation, volunteers often describe it as one of the most rewarding commitments they’ve taken on.
