We had the pleasure of welcoming Emma Doree and Sheila Forder from the Deputy Mayor’s Office. Due to the ongoing serious incident on Langdale Moor, the Deputy Mayor herself was unable to attend, but we still had the opportunity to show Emma and Sheila around our branch, explain what we do, how we operate, and share insightful data. One of our longstanding volunteers gave them some insightful historical information about the branch, as well as volunteer and caller experiences.
Several of us had an open discussion sharing our volunteering experiences, the important work we do in the community, and why having a local branch presence is so important. We also highlighted the special initiatives we are committed to, which include supporting the MOD and veterans, the Network Rail Partnership at Northallerton Railway Station, and the Rural Initiative in supporting farmers and the rural community, something close to the hearts of Emma and Sheila.
Supporting mental health initiatives is a focus for the Deputy Mayor’s office, and ways Samaritans can work closer together will be discussed when the visit from the Deputy Mayor is rearranged within the next few weeks.
