Our Listening Volunteer, Sally, completed the 2025 London Marathon and raised over £12 000 for our branch.
Sally only became a volunteer in 2024 but won a place in the London Marathon ballot so decided to raise money for her local branch.
She said that she had learnt so much becoming a Samaritan, and her eyes had been well and truly opened to just how many people are struggling and what a hugely important service the Samaritans offer.
My training for the Samaritans, (and the London Marathon for that matter!) has been challenging, but enjoyable.
Sally
Sally's target started at £100 for every mile but when she smashed the initial target of £2620 in 48 hours, she then raised it to £150 a mile (a total target of £3930) and then again to £250 a mile (a massive £6650), then £300 a mile, then finally £400 a mile!
In total Sally raised £12,600 from 707 kind donors by the morning after the marathon - in just two weeks. She was immensely grateful to everyone who supported her.
The money is going towards our Moving On fund for our new centre.
